Keep it Going For Matt!

Greetings folks. I haven't commented on the last couple weeks. This is because I took a break for the Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread.

Well a lot has happened, and I can't comment on everything here. Right now I just want to highlight the star, Matt Giraud. The judges made a fine decision to save him, and now he's made it into the top 5! But Matt fans must not let down their guard now. He's in danger of being overcome by inadequacy emotions, and the judges/producers have their agenda. We know the plan is to have Lambert, Gokey and Allison as the top 3. So don't let up in your support for your man Matt!

Now, speaking of Adam...have you noticed how he continues his screaming campaign? There was actually one week where he did well, but he's certainly the most overrated contestant this season. For the disco theme, what the hell was that? Sure he made it his own, but the problem is, it was no longer disco. What a joke!

Anyway, keep Matt up there, and American Idol might still be worth watching.

Top 10 and Top 9 commentary -mostly about Matt Giraud

I haven't been able to update this site much the last couple rounds, but there are some important things to note.

No one can deny that Matt Giraud did exceptionally well in the top 10 week. Yet they claimed he was in the bottom 2. This is absolute nonsense. For the past couple seasons I have been alerting you all to the game the producers appear to be playing. (See the Bottom 3 theory page). Sometimes they don't send the bottom vote getter home. Instead, they might choose the lowest ranked of the guys, or the girls. Also, who they place in the bottom 3 are not necessarily really in the bottom 3 either.

Mark my words! Matt was not truly in the bottom 2 in the top 10 week (Mo town theme week). He was placed there to keep the surprise element of the show going, and to add some drama, and I guess to also let you think that the judges just might use their option to save someone. We all know the judges won't save someone like Carver or Megan and we knew they wouldn't have saved any of the others who already left. But getting back to Matt...

The producers' playing around, has really messed Matt up. The poor guy did very badly last night, all because he was trying too hard. He thought he did well the previous week, but still ended up in the bottom 2 (supposedly), and so naturally he figured he needed to try something different. The truth is, he was just fine, and he didn't have to go messing around with his style. Now he will suffer for it. Not that I think he will go home this week, but he now has psychological issues to overcome. Shame on the producers.

But let's hope Matt can turn things around, and just get back on the winning path!

As to the performances, I'll make some comments about them in another post.

Top 11 Highlights

By now you'd have noticed I didn't say anything about the results show for the top 13. So before highlighting points in the Top 11 week, let's just recap the results of the previous week.

You might recall I said Anoop was in grave danger of being eliminated. Fortunately, he was saved by the skin of his teeth. I should mention though, that it is quite possible that Anoop was actually in the real bottom 2. Based on past seasons, we have come to expect that the producers might play a little with the results, by maybe eliminating the bottom girl, even though she might not have been the lowest vote-getter overall. So I suspect that Jasmin got more votes than Anoop, but was the lowest ranked among the girls.

Anyway, I'm glad Anoop made it through, because as I said from before, he has great potential, and he was one of my favourites from the early rounds. And for those of you who saw this week's show, you'd have seen what I'm talking about. Anoop was one of the best this night. To be more precise, he was the 2nd best. The judges, even Simon, had nothing but good things to say about him.

The best of the night without doubt, was Matt Giraud! Again, from last week I expressed my feelings about this contestant. I spotted his potential from the start, and I believe he is the one that should go all the way. At least the judges are finally coming to realise this, as they intimated in much in their comments.

I suppose Megan Joy deserves special recognition. She didn't do so well last week, so it was refreshing to see her make a come-back. What is impressive is that she was actually sick with the flu leading up to her performance. I had no clue she was ill when she was singing.

Now the results show has already gone, so we know who went home. I think we all knew that Alexis would be in trouble. But I didn't really think she'd be the one to go. In fact, I preferred her this week to last week. I was thinking more along the lines of Michael Sarver. However, if we're going to be honest, the real worst for the night was....(drum roll)...none other than Adam Lambert! Yes folks, accept it. Sad to many of you no doubt, but true. Of course the judges didn't really recognise his performance as that bad, except for possibly Simon. Simon was in form this time when he said it was horrible, and rubbish.

On a lighter note, it was quite funny listening to Simon calling Lil Rounds, Little, as if that was her real name, and 'Lil' just the short form. LOL!

Well I'm not sure that we need say anything more about the other contestants. Except maybe the Gokey dude. He's alright. But this week belonged to Matt and Anoop. Way to go boys!

Highlights: Top 13

This won't be my traditional recap. In fact, I will probably have few of those this season, but we'll see. I will simply feature a few highlights here, and when I say highlights, I don't necessarily mean positive. These are just some things that I want to focus on.

One of the things that has been evident this season is the changing up of expected routines. For eg. We have a 4th judge. We have judges not necessarily giving feedback in the customary order. We have 36 contestants in the semi-finals. We have the wild card concept brought back, but with a different twist. We have 13 finalists. And tonight, we had the judges and Ryan introduced in a new way. This time instead of judges found in their seats at the start, they appear before the audience, introduced by a new voice, who then also introduces Ryan. These things are important to note for students of American Idol who might want to propose new theories.

Ok, now to the actual contestants. (This is Michael Jackson theme week btw). I'll only feature a few. First one I want to highlight is the blind guy Scott Macintyre. I didn't really like his song choice. But he was ok. Simon also didn't like the choice. Scot started explaining that he chose it because he wanted to be artistic. Simon said artistic is fine, but just not on this show. LOL! Kara pointed out that he only learnt this song on the piano this week. That is impressive. I'm sure this kid will be around next week.

Anoop Desai
A great disappointment. He tried his hand at Beat It. But I really wasn't impressed. Quite a let down really. Unfortunately for Anoop the judges agreed with me. Simon insisted that Paula go first, and it was obvious why she didn't want to. She actually said it was karaoke. Simon said it was horrible. Randy thought it was wrong song choice, and Kara felt disconnected. Sadly, this kid is a prime candidate for leaving this round. A shame really, because I saw potential in him. Only hope for Anoop is that Jorge and Megan rank lower.

Adam "screamer" Lambert
-I call him screamer because that's all he ever seems to do. He started out ok, which surprised me as I was just expecting shrieking throughout. But true to form, in short order he was at it, screaming the time away. Why he is rated so highly I cannot understand. Paula expects to see him in the finale. Simon that it was in a different league. Basically all the judges thought he was great. And that's sad.

Matt Giraud This is the guy that I hope goes all the way. Probably unlikely at this point considering how the judges are leaning. But this guy is genuinely great. I'm glad the judges put him through after his failing to get make it in the top 3 of his group, due to a really poor song choice. At least all the judges gave him good remarks for his performance tonight. Well deserved.

Alexis The only reason I highlight this chick is because of the comments Kara gave her. First of all this girl sang Dirty Diana. It left me wondering if this girl might be a little bi, but after listening to it a second time, maybe she was more trying to project herself as Diana. Now things get interesting when Kara gave her feedback. Kara said she is a naughty girl (most likely detecting some bi vibes), but added that she likes that! There have been times on the show where Kara has come across as suspect (recall some of her times with Paula), and this only serves to confirm my suspicions. By the way, I don't think Alexia did such a good job with this song.

Before I close, I want to say a word about Allison, the Rocker girl. I do not fancy her singing at all. The judges gave her rave reviews though. It's important that we don't get led astray. So keep your head on when you listen to these judges.

A couple other items of note are:
1. Two get eliminated this round
2. There is supposedly some major change in the results show this round. My guess is that the judges will determine who leaves, if not for the 2 who are leaving, then for at least one of them.
